Light of Hekate

Walking the Three-fold Path

The Naming of Gods

I’m sure you’re asking yourself – Morion, the site is called Light of Hekate, who is this Aekáth you keep talking about?  Well, I am a contrary creature.  Calling upon the Goddess as Hekate doesn’t seem to work for me.  She is so vast, encompasses so much, and the name Hekate has its own modern baggage.  In Greek, Her name is Ἑκάτη which looks like Ekátn which became Aekáth.  That is the name that resonated with
me,  I don’t expect anyone else to use it.  If you choose to, your mileage may vary.

I also changed it a bit because for a little bit now I haven’t been using the names of my Gods in public, I had switched to epithets, titles, or descriptors.  Part of my reasoning is because each of us approach deity differently and we have different relationships with
Them.  Personal gnosis is crucial in building your relationship with any God and I still feel that it is needed even though UPG has become a bit taboo.  I’m not saying to eschew mythology or scholarly theses,
those are also necessary but (IMHO) those are the bones and UPG is the meat.  It is what helps us to connect and understand our deities.

I switch back and forth between Hekate and Aekáth, with the latter being used most often.  For the other Gods I work with, they are the Light God and the Dark God, twins who are different sides of the same coin.  If you think you recognize their descriptions as a certain God, you’re probably right.  I’m sure I’ll end up introducing other gods and goddesses whose name may not be one you recognize.  I apologize if it confuses anyone, but I am keeping the entries on here as authentic as possible.  I want anyone who stumbles onto this site to see the ups and downs of a normal person trying to build and be committed to a spiritual practice.

To mis-quote T.S. Eliot:

The Naming of Gods is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you a God must have
three different names!
